Founder, Jennifer Chin, has been teaching movement since 1990. As a dancer, she began teaching children at the local dance studio, and then moved on to the professional dance world. She received a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University’s TIsch School of the Arts in 1996, and has taught at many of the city’s top dance centers including The Jose Limon Institute, Peridance Center and Dancespace Center (now DNA). She has also taught and performed around the United States and abroad. Jennifer’s yoga practice began in 1997, studying with Dharma Mittra, from whom she received her Yoga Teaching Certification. She has been teaching yoga since 1999. In 2003 she was introduced to the Iyengar Yoga method and began studying embodied anatomy with Genny Kapuler, all of which has greatly influenced her teaching and way of life. Jennifer’ s introduction to PIlates was with Kathy Grant, one of the first teachers of the technique, at NYU, and used the method to rehabilitate her numerous dance injuries. She then taught Pilates for 8 years at Groundfloor Exercise, a studio on The Upper West Side. LUMINOUSbody was created in January of 2007 to share all of the teachings Jennifer has learned.
Aditi Dhruv first came to yoga through her study of classical Indian dance forms, and has been practicing for over ten years. She is Yoga Alliance certified at the 200-hour level, and completed her yoga teacher training in 2006 with Alison West (Yoga Union) in New York City. Aditi has studied with respected teachers including Alison West, Deborah Wolk, Jonathan Fitz-Gordon and Estelle Eichenberger. Her classes are informed by her extensive ongoing dance training and practice in the Vinyasa, Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions; and focus on teaching students a series of poses while integrating the physical, subtle, and spiritual bodies, through precise alignment and breath-focused movement.
Jillian Hollis is a professional dancer and pilates instructor with extensive training and pratice in the Pilates method. She started practicing pilates as a young dancer to help strengthen and bring awareness to her body. Her studies continued with deeper training in movement and anatomy at Point Park University where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Dance. In 2002, she moved to New York City to join the professional dance community and began training to become a teacher of pilates. She also enjoys practicing yoga at the Iyengar Yoga Institute and Kula Yoga. Jillian is constantly trying to find a new approach to help clarify her teaching skills and further her knowledge of the body and movement. Learning how to recover from her own injuries helps her stay in tune while working with clients who are dealing with injury themselves. She works with all ages and skill levels.
Sadie Gilbertson was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where she began her dance studies at age 3. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Dance and Performance from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Currently, she teaches ballroom dance, ballet, modern dance technique and is a nationally certified personal trainer from NASM (National Association of Sports Medicine). Sadie is also CPR certified. Her teaching draws from her influences in yoga and pilates. She specializes in working with special populations such as youth, elderly, prenatal, clients with heart issues and cancer.
Laura Luitje is interested in how health, balance and peaceful awareness can develop through deepening our relationship to our bodies. She comes to yoga and Thai Bodywork from an extensive background in dance, yoga, and excursions into aerial circus arts. She currently studies Iyengar and Dharmamittra yoga with Genny Kapuler, Dharma Mittra, and Jennifer Chin. She also practices Shamatha/Vipasshana meditation, and is moving towards integrating Western manual therapy with eastern bodywork by pursuing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
